And we are on to Tuesday. Not even going to begin to tell you how much incredible damage we can do on a Tuesday. Time to get it! “The best leaders use the Happiness Advantage as a tool to motivate their teams and maximize employee potential.” Google is famous for keeping scooters in the hallways, video games in the break room, and gourmet chefs in the cafeteria. The founder of Patagonia created a program called, “Let My People Go Surfing” policy. He tells his employees that “If the mood should strike you, go catch some waves.” Gym memberships, health benefits, and even on-site daycares consistently deliver huge returns on investment for the company and its employees.

Coors Brewing company reports a $6.15 return in profitability for ever $1 spent on its corporate fitness program. Toyota saw an instant jump in productivity when it started a strength based training for their employees.

It is true that a company does not have to bring in such drastic policy changes like these to capitalize on the Happiness Advantage.

DishOne does a company TGIF meeting every Friday morning where we take time to report to each other, but we also take time to give a bunch of recognition, and share motivational thoughts. This has quickly turned into one of my favorite parts of the week. I can see each employee walking away Friday mornings with a hop in their step. And I guarantee that turns into more production at work that day.

This concept can be and should be trickled down from the leadership in the company as well. Statistics show that a manager who encourages and recognizes the employees on his team, perform 31% better than those that don’t.

In fact, when recognition is deliberately delivered, it is even more motivating than money.

Recognition can be given in many ways. A complimentary email or a pat on the back for a job well done. It can come with recognizing a person in front of their peers. Simple gift cards with hand written letters, expressing your appreciation. Text messages letting someone know you are grateful for what they do and who they are. And the list goes on. In other words, happiness comes from showing love to those who deserve it.

I just want us all to always remember that happiness is a choice. Which choice will you make today?
