Man, all I can say is life get’s really good on a Friday! Today John C starts to talk about tapping into significance. He starts by asking each of us what drives us. Is it survival, success, or significance?
“If you are like many people, you may be struggling just to keep your head above water. You are in survival mode. Whether because of circumstances, setbacks, or poor choices, you have to put a tremendous amount of effort into just making it day to day.”
I believe that a great portion of the world sits in this category. In fact, if the 80/20 rule rings true in this situation as well, which it almost always does, that means that 80% of the worlds population is in survival mode.
I have to be honest with you. Survival mode scares the living hell out of me. The idea of living paycheck to paycheck, having an average relationship with my kids, having a marriage that doesn’t increase daily, and being known as someone that is mediocre at his job motivates the crap out of me to go do something great every day. I want to make it clear that I am not saying that those that live the law of survival are bad people. But what I am saying is that I will fight like hell to never be one of them. Sound harsh? Good! I hope it is. I am hoping that if any of you that are on this thread find yourself as average at anything that is truly important to you, that you will call yourself to repentance and go make a change to be better.
If you haven’t already noticed, this blog is designed to drive every one of us to be better. To be better husbands, fathers, friends, people, employees, visionaries, and much more. PLEASE don’t allow yourself to be average in any of these categories! Your life should be filled with you setting goals, and then FIGHTING like hell to hit those goals! When was the last time you truly felt good for making it through a day? There is a stark difference between surviving something and creating something.
If you get better today, your day was a success. If you lay in your bed at night having given that day everything you had, no matter what the outcome was, your day was a success. And I guarantee you that you will feel satisfied when you do. Don’t just survive, create!
