Happy New Year, everyone! The New Year brings about a lot of cool things. For those that had an average 2016, it’s as if you are getting a free, get out of jail from living in an average world, card. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT! Brad Conant sent me over a text on Sunday that had a bunch of questions you should be asking yourself for 2017. Holly and I took the time yesterday to answer each one of them. We are going to print up a copy for both of us, put it by our bed, and start to get to work. We added to the list a bit and here it is:
- What is one or more bad habits you are going to get rid of?
- What is a new skill(s) you want to learn?
- Who is a person you hope to be more like?
- What is an attribute(s) you would like to strengthen?
- What is your main goal(s)?
2017 can and should be the happiest, most successful year you have ever seen. In fact, if you put a few self-disciplines to the test for the entire year, it should be a year that smashes what you have done in the last several years combined. I started reading a book this morning that Justin Virgin recommended to me. It is The Magic of Thinking Big, by David J. Schwartz. Every one of my goals for this year have to do with that exact concept; thinking bigger. How do I become a better dad, a better husband, make more money, save more money, improve my soul, become closer to God, give to those is need more, and become healthier?
But not just get better in each of those categories, but to smash the hell out of them!
One of my goals for 2017 is to open my mouth and tell my story every opportunity I get. What story will I be telling? The one that talks about engaging in small, scheduled self-disciplines that will change their life. I am convinced at this point that there is a reason that God put 24 hours in a day. Just enough hours to be able to do ALL the important things in life, and still have enough time to sleep and do it in a healthy manner. As part of opening my mouth I am going to issue each of us a couple of challenges for this year.
- Do power hour Monday through Friday
- Do some type of physical activity Monday through Friday
- Come up with your top goals in the 5 major categories (physical, educational, financial, emotional (relationships), and spiritual)
- Take those goals from #3 and know exactly what time each day you are going to accomplish them
- Start to THINK BIG
- Have some fun
Life is good, my friends. And 2017 should rock your world! Get it!
